The Western End of Northbridges nightclub strip was the scene for a tense
standoff on wednesday the 5th of May. The TRG were called to a Perth niightclub in response to an emergency call from the
Armadale Psychiatric Hospital warning that one of their senior doctors was
being held by an armed patient within the nightclub. Sources within the
police force have confirmed that the man was terrorising patrons of the
nightclub with a shotgun before being subdued and driven away in an amoured
police vehicle.
This was just the start of the unfolding drama however, as the truck was
later hijacked and driven through the streets of Perth to finally startle
diners enjoying a meal on the Barrack St jetty as the vehicle plunged
through the crowd and into the river. Police have confirmed that an officer
died after being unable to escape from the sinking vehicle.
The crazed gunman and his female accomplice vanished from the scene of the
crime, with police divers finding no sign of them in the surrounding area of
the river. Seargent Joseph Caruthers, who barely escaped from the sinking
vehicle is currently being counselled and assessed by police psychologists
after the harrowing experience.
The police officer who was forced from the drivers seat of the hijacked
police vehicle described being attacked by an athletic dark haired man and an attractive dark haired woman with an American accent. [sketches accompany article]. Both are considered armed and extremely dangerous,
